FIXTURES and RESULTS - 2006-2007 Champions League

Wednesday 9 august, kot 20.45 - San Siro, AC Milan v Red Star Belgrade

Tuesday 22 august, kot 21.00 - Maracana, Red Star Belgrade v AC Milan

at this time of the season i'd have much preferred the other way around, i mean to play the second game at home, anyhow, never mind, don't know much about the serbian side though except they've beaten Cork [1-0 and 3-0] in the second round

perhaps elmickio, our man in Ireland, can tell us more about them?
pippo_18 - 06 Ago 2006 - 19:34
Oggetto: RE: 2006-2007 Champions League
I agree, i think its better to have the home game as the second game. Dunno why though. Maybe its because after the first leg you know exactly what you have to do and are better able to implement it. Maybe its the home support behind you for the more important of the two legs also. but like u said GMT, never mind. The important thing is that we play as good for the two matches and definitely not take anything for granted. I hope to hear more about our opponents. I've heard little about Red Star Belgrade but their reputation says that they're quite strong opponents and might have a few tricks for milan to handle. Best of luck to the team.
elmickio - 06 Ago 2006 - 19:43
Oggetto: RE: 2006-2007 Champions League
They have a striker called Zigic who is 6' 8". Apparently he has a reputatioun of being a dangerous player and what I seen of him in the first leg he didn't play well. They played quite alot of long balls to him. Cork who had a weak side on where unlucky not to get something out of it. I never seen the second leg, but the tall striker scored and was quite a handfull (so I read). So if we keep him at bay and get a goal or two at home, I don't think we will have a problem.

Does anyone know how I can get to see the match? Some form of streaming or anything?
Cheers

Oggetto: RE: 2006-2007 Champions League
hmm...I'm not sure where you can see the match. Sorry i cant help you there. Well I saw Zigic play all 3 of Serbia and Montenegro's world cup matches. He wasn't that active but was definitely the go-to guy. I cant recall that well but i dont think he was a regular starter either. I believe we can more than easily keep him quiet for the 2 games. I dont think he has too much pace to trouble the defense but his height would naturally pose a problem on those crosses and set pieces. Never the less he shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Hopefully will get it on SKY, anyhow, i'm already working on plan B, just in case

here's my starting point
http://www.streamsports.net/TOPo/index.php?m=top&s=out&ID=1153414356.1608

1 - once you got there scroll down a bit
2 - on the left hand side you'll see a section called 'programs'
3 - there's a wee prog called PPLive on top of the pile, get on it

i've just installed it and started watching the second half of Lanus v River Plate on CCTV5 [pretty annoying chinese commentary but surprisingly good picture quality, definitely much much better than a kick in the teeth]

there are quite a few sport channels to flick through though, still have to play with it and test it properly you see

have to say that i'm very pleased with what i've seen so far, easy peasy i would say, guess i'll get to see some Copa Libertadores games as well - can you hear me Obita?

enjoy

Great result considering the b/u defence was in place and everyone else is still warming up to form.

They did not give up a goal and had plenty of scoring chances.
Even though they will play in Belgrade they will be in better form and won't be intimidated.

Excellent turn out from the fans!
A shame it could not have been a sellout.

On another CL note;

AEK athens 2 - Heart 1 Damn they gave up 2 goals in the last ten minutes including an OG!

We were following it on UEFA's website as we could not get any games anywhere else including the link you sent GMT.

as far as i know UEFA are no longer in the position to say 'no' - Red Star Belgrade are though

thing is i don't take anything for granted, especially at this time of the season after the WC - which doesn't mean looking for excuses - CL qualifing rounds are known as tricky games, partly due to your opponents, who play the match of their lifetime, partly because of the pressure, blowing it would be disastrous

as ACMilan fan i see CL qualifing rounds as everything-to-lose games and, whatever the outcome, they do alter your plans significantly

don't know much about AEK myself, they finished in 2nd only 3 pts behind Olympiacos though, had Hearts kicked them out i'd be already making plans for a train trip up north

as for group A both Barca and Chelsea should go through hand in hand for a change, which means not getting in each other's way afterwards?

russian football isn't that bad at this time of the season, meaning before their winter break, so group B, E and G seem to be the tough ones, at least to my eyes

AEK got through on some very contreversial calls by the Russian ref.
Get this he yellow carded one of the hearts boys for jewellry while the AEK players were almost all clearly wearing rings. He was sent off shortly after on another contrevercial call where AEK's player was not even touched. All possibility of the win was lost at that point and then later for the draw with yet another terrible call for a second red card to Hearts.

The end result Hearts playing 30 minutes 2 men down and only conceeding 1 goal on penalty 79 min and the next 2 in the last 6 minutes of the game with all hope lost.
Pray Milan don't get this Russian ref in any of their matches he was just brutal.

One thing we should be happy with the largest away stdium is Olympic in Athens at 33000. Any of these poor teams coming into San Siro will have to face the full fury of our motivated fans this year.
We have a point to make and won't conceed at home.

Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München have signed Dutch international midfielder Mark van Bommel from FC Barcelona for a fee of around €6m.

Successful medical
The 29-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Munich club after passing a medical in Germany today. He will link up with Netherlands team-mate Roy Makaay at the Fuβball Arena München. "It is the best thing for my career," said Van Bommel. "I have to think about my future."

Final appearance
Van Bommel left Dutch title-holders PSV Eindhoven to join Barça last summer but failed to secure a regular place as the Catalan side won the Primera División and the UEFA Champions League. He made one of his nine appearances in the latter competition in the final victory against Arsenal FC.

'The right man'
Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2005, Van Bommel is expected to fill the gap in the Bayern midfield left by Michael Ballack's move to Chelsea FC. "At PSV, Van Bommel demonstrated unbelievable qualities as a leader," said Bayern general manaber Uli Hoeness. "We have found the right man. He can hold the ball and play the crucial pass. He can score and he is good in the air."

Gourcuff is ace isn't he - what do you think guys - that lad is cheating us he's not 20, can't be so young, he definitely looks far more experienced than a 20 years old boy - i was genuinely impressed

especially around the hour when he found himself by the sideline in his own defensive third and in the position of having to make a critical decision in a split second
to my surprise he went for the ambitious option and managed to reach Inzaghi with an accurately right-footed sliced-to-stay-in through ball instead of hoofing it up front - that piece of high self-confidence made me go clapping like a seal instinctively, that was pure class guys, i bet all my lagers this lad's going to become a top footballer

oh and, had he wrapped things up this way

Ancelotti speaks very highly of him and I know from the official site that Physically he has not even matured yet according to their tests.

A great start to the round robin. Milan now heads group H and barring major injury problems we should be in the knockout round without difficulty. I know I am greedy but we still should have had more goals.

Also what are your thoughts on Real Madrid's inauspicous start?

Here are all of today's results;

E Dynamo Kyiv 1-4 Steaua
E Lyon 2-0 Real Madrid
F Man. United 3-2 Celtic
F København 0-0 Benfica
G Porto 0-0 CSKA Moskva
G Hamburg 1-2 Arsenal

still gobsmacked - hopefully it's not been a one-off appearance, i'd say he's proved himself up to the job and deserves to play more often
at his age i remember i couldn't get enough of chasing the ball all over the pitch and 90 minutes were far too short

Inzaghi's fourth goal in four consecutive games has gone almost unnoticed

as far as Madrid goes they often get hammered in Lyon, not surprised but very very pleased with the outcome for the likes of Cannavaro and Capello

oh hey, it would appear that our hearted 'wish you well judashenko' have hit his homeland club as well

Amazing performance by young-one Gourcuff, he's got skills, elegance, and presicion, now I know why they call him the new Zizou. He's got nice ball control and touch, I don't think there's a better way to start your career than with a goal, imagine what he and Kaka will make in a couple of years.

Other point I noticed was that we played as a team, there's player union there, I was impressed by some plays (Kaka's acrobatic shoot, and some others), I'me vey happy about the performance of the team in the last 2 games, that's what I calll a solid and united team

Good comments from everyone.
It really goes to show even at this very early stage of the season how determined the team is to succeed despite everything.

I'm still chuckling at Capello. I really changed my opinion to the negative on him earlier this summer when he went on and on about how great Juve were and that his greatest & proudest accomplishment was leading Serie A for 66 consecutive games.... (how the F**K can you be pround of anything when you knew damn well every game was F*****G fixed by Moggi & co... What a jerk!

Just caught replays of the Man U game & Lyon. Celtic got screwed by some bad calls by the ref and then non calls when it should have been to their favour. I saw nothing however that this years version of Milan can't cope with, Especially if we get Nesta and Kaladze back healthy. Ferdinand is making some consistant mistakes this year (I've managed to catch a few Man U games and he blunders at least once a game now)

Gourcuff though, what a great aquisition! They better sign both he and Kaka to life contracts. What skill and talent. Talk about Joga Bonito!!

Games are fixed all over the world (Mexico isn't exception) just that some federations to avoid the criticism, the covered them, FIGC had the braveness to accept the corruption, not like other leagues.

Ferdinand, I've seen all ManU games, and he is making some mistakes, it wasn't ususal on him, wonder why is happening, he's not been the same for the last year, although I think if he recovers his level, is one of the best, maybe with Nesta.

Well Javo if its any consolation a friend of the family spent the summer in Poland and she was telling me that the Polish Football federation just cleaned house. The fired 75% of everyone involved including the refs for match fixing and corruption. More of a result of how poorly they performed in the WC.

As far as Rio goes I just don't see him performing anymore at his previous high standards. It will be interesting to see if Sir Alex deals with the issue or lets it slide till season's end.

What a good solid game from Milan, alright we where playing AEK athens, but we played well as a unit. Great debut from Gorcuff was quite suprised by his techique and confidence on and off the ball for a 20 year old.

As for ferdinand, the man is pants, simple as that! and as for paying 30 million for him I think Alex Ferguson is just getting his money 's worth out of him. I think now he's too old to say that he'll mature and grow into a top defender! too late for him.

Interesting quote from Ancelotti discussing some of the new players and his strategy for giving who playing time early this season. I am worried he will however start to overuse certain players again this year from his last comments though.

MILANELLO - Carlo Ancelotti took time to discuss how he was going to employ the team turnover in the upcoming games: 'Players who haven't played a lot have come in and on one hand this can be a problem and on the other is can go well. Yoann Gourcuff and Ricardo Oliveira are examples of players who have settled in straight away. The turnover will be a strategy we'll will follow up until October 1 and the international break but we won't always follow it. There will be times when we can't leave certain players out. It doesn't seem like Oliveira and Gourcuff are players who have just joined, they have fitted in well, have a good dialogue with everyone in the team. Everyone feels important as we are a team of more than eleven regulars.'

The coach then turned to inter: 'They'll want to bounce back against Sampdoria after the defeat to Sporting Lisbon. We can't talk about a comeback just yet, we know we can't make any mistakes, we have to be on our guard and concentrated.'

Milan's season: 'I don't think it's a transitional season. It's true that Milan have bought really top-class players in the past while this season the sensation is that Ricardo Oliveira and Gourcuff have to work to get to that level. But the reality is that these players represent something important in the present. There have been more certainities than doubts in the first two games, but this is for the fans, we know that we have a squad at the highest level at our disposal.'

Yip, kaka looked frustated! Gila abd seedorf missed a couple of glorious chances!

Seedorf had a goal that was clearly on, ruled offside! The linesman was terrible, i have to admit. Lille had a couple of chances themselves only for Dida to save us more than once. Milan played with one striker and didn't replace Gilardino until the 75th min. At the momment Alberto looks under confident and I'm starting to feel sorry for him. Oliveria didn'nt get even get a mention. They played Ambrosini, Pirlo, Seedorf and Gattuso in the midfield along with Kaka supporting Gila.

it's the first time in a while that I was frustated watching them. They did at times pass the ball in their usual fashion, just at the final third couldn't get it going, somrthing that definatly worried me and hope that it was a one-off (not counting saturdays draw)!

I did not get a chance to even see highlights but the tenure was pretty much the same as the Livorno game.
Lots of opportunity but no finish and Kaka run to the nub by the end of th game and nothing to show for it.

This is a bad pattern to fall into. The only positive again is no gaols conceeded but you don't win the league or CL without scoring some of your own.

knocking the ball around is what we do best, pity Oliveira didn't take part in the game in place of Gilardino, i mean from the off, i'd be very curisous to see him supported by that midfield which is capable of creating good chances in every game
and let's hope someone will start converting opportunities into points possibly from the Siena game
hey Tal not conceding goals is all well and good no question about that but you seem to be obsessed by clean sheets?

not the first time our beloved rivals get kicked in the teeth by Bayern Munich is it, still remember a UEFA tie in the late 80's, rather than early 90's, 1-0 away win in Munich only to concede 3 goals in 7 minutes in the San Siro, therefore you will agree with me on this, it was about time for a german side to beat their italian counterparts, so well done to them for a change!
extremely sweet indeed, can you lot see them dropping out, hopefully Spartak Moskva [1-1 vs Sporting i guess, home or away?] will chop them off the competition, perhaps under the snow? that would make it even more dramatic, and sweeter

What the hell was Ancelotti thinking of? HE PLAYD TO GET ONE POINT, nad the thing is... Lille is no rival to us, we could of get three points and get more advantage.

After last year I am just happy to see solid defence. While it is great to win 4-3 (parma second leg last season) what does it say for your team in CL competition and long term success? The other reason is it means no one question's Dida and quite frankly there are enough issues for Milan to deal with this season without that distraction.

It would be great for Milan to elliminate inter from CL play but I think that will be taken care of by Sporting on the second leg. I just can't see them getting out of the group stage. Which goes to show you were they really stand.

Kaka is having a breakout season, compessed with an down-level attack, I think with Sheva's departure, Kaka is playing a bigger role that helps him to be better, he has more responsabilities and he can take care of him. I'm just worried about the lack of support for our strikers.

1 The player that is carryin on our team after the problem with forwards is Ricky, amazing performance he has had over the past games, he is being our heart and soul, amazing the 3rd goal, what a combination, amazing display, he runs all over the field, he joins the team, he creates spaces, he makes plays, he changes the rythm and he even scores! WHAT MORE WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK TO A PLAYER?

I think Gila is back on track.

I see 4-1 with Gila 2 Olivera 1 kaka or Seedorf 1.
If we can get the offence running on all cilinders Ancelotti needs to just worry about strengthening the defence and ideally with 1-2 who are still eligible for CL for the post Christmas push to Athens.

well given that our team is capable to create 5-6 scoring opportunities per game i do expect our forwards to convert at least half of them into points, don't think i'm being too demanding here

as for Gilardino i do have high expectations but i'm not fooling myself, i don't expect him to score as much as judashenko, but definitely more than he did last season, in both competitions, league and especially CL, matching my expectations means scoring vital goals not only the useless ones
now every single player is called to give his contribution in terms of goals in order to balance judashenko's departure, in this respect Kaka and Seedorf are doing pretty well so far, even the likes of Jankulovsky and Kaladze managed to inscribe their names on the scoresheet and let alone Inzaghi who took us back to Europe,
what i'm trying to say is that we are still desperate for Gila to start scoring when it really matters

When will this badluck streak end????

well despite having lost this one we got through as first placed in group H and at least we've got something to look forward to and hopefully our bad luck will come to an end by then, i do fancy the Celts!

Guys what bad luck are you talking about? It's time we let those oldies go rest. if i were Ancelotti i would discuss with the board to get a new coach and elevate him to sporting director. also heard maldini will retire in May,that will be great and as well Ancelotti should let someone else coach the team with new ideas. he seems to have only plan A and when things are bad they are bad forever. we are not any unlucky, just short of ideas. pray we don't get Arsenal, they will embarass us.

Sorry guys just back from 3 days away for work.
No internet access and no cable/TV and very limited radio.

What do I come back to No goals! The other team's goalkeeper is the player of the match AGAIN.
Ancelotti is now praying for luck and MILAN has the dubious distinction of having played the oldest player in CL EVER with Billy Costacurta in Athens.
No offence to Billy but it would have been much better to report a win.

The only positive in all this is we actually advance since Lille and Anderlecht drew 2-2.

Does anyone know how the teams now draw for the knockout stage?
GMT playing Celtic would be great.
They have never won on Italian soil and Hopefully Gattuso will be ready for a "homecoming" at Ibrox.

that plan A - as you put it - as our only resource sounds unfair Obita, merely because i've lost count of the number of times that our ideas bounce off the woodwork, we can call it lack of accuracy if you want but i'm not sure that a different coach would bring in that tiny bit of extra accuracy we need, which is why i call it hard luck instead

Talorcan, where on earth did they make you spend those three punishing days, was it a cave or what, can hardly figure out - anyhow, group winners and runners-up go through to the knock-out stage and the eight third-placed clubs move into the uefa cup, the rest are out of the competition

I hate to say it but it was a wonderful resort in the Halibuton Highlands just south of Algonquin Park (2.5 hours NE of Toronto) on a quite lake.
Food was to die for; private saltwater spa, fireplace and jacuzzi's in every suite....open bar Stella Artois on tap and a decent selection of scotches.
Just no access to internet. But I was wearing my Milan scarf and Milan shirts under my sweater the whole time....
As far as Gattuso it will be just like the old days; an away transfer to Ibrox for the abuse... It won't faze him a bit to play there again.

it would seem that they embarassed themselves last night - well the best excuse in the rack appears to be as follow - lack of motivation since group H was arithmetically dead before playing this last game - so let's pretend nothing happened, i'm well pissed off though

Barcelona, PSV, Real Madrid, Celtic and Porto - this is what uefa pots got in store for us on friday 15 december - first leg away on 21 february and second leg at the San Siro on 7 march

an awful lot of things might well change in two months or so but i stick to what i said somewhere above, with all due respect the Celts will do, also got a few mates to share it with you see, if not then let's go Real - cheeky!

Celtics not bad indeed we have shafted them down the gulley quiet a time many..
last night was Kalacstrophic and we should be careful. Losing in never fun because they played infront of fans who paid a hell of bux, so take that excuse of already a decided group to Galliani. i think, honestly, Galliani has been a very poor Director in the last 3 seasons. he is too fond of old fellows, he has started saying alot of think associated with dying horses...like why say the Lega Campioni is our objective? then are we just participants in the league (Serie A)? he should just start to admit and swallow some of his words. when we play badly like last night we shouldn't cover-up with words like "was already a decided group, yet thousands of Greek fans were following that game with hope of a Milan good show...
i'm not angry but dismayed by the excuses we keep coming up with...Milan has to start gtting used to winning..

Yes we seem to be getting very good at excuses and not at winning.

Galliani is another one who should have been banned for life with his part in the scandal.

It is not just old players that need to step down at Milan.
Management needs to be hel accountable for the lack of results here not just the coach and a few players.

GMT you comments on the Greek fans is spot on.
Any sport I ever played in you always played your best. You never played to draw or let someone else advance.
That is why there is so little faith outside of Italian football in the quality and integrity of the game in Italy.

This year if I want to see a good match I have been looking more and more to the EPL. Teams fighting relegation still give the top teams runs for their money and make them work for their wins.

comments on Greek fans were Obita's - i'm just too busy pondering about our own fate to bother thinking of the Greeks disappointment - fair observation though

just let me pinpoint this out

the format of any group stage itself gives plenty room to dodgy games to happen, regardless of what we say motivation does matter - still remember Euro 2004, Denmark and Sweden needed a 2-2 draw to go both through at the expense of Italy and their game ended 2-2; could mention other games such as the famous Germany v Austria 1-0, before that game Austria were topping their group and could afford losing to Germany by 1-0 and still go though along with the Germans brushing Algeria off the 1982 World Cup, which is exactly what happened - so, cutting the long story short, we're not dealing with such a new illness and the italian approach to the game with nothing at stake might be debatable but is no exception

Tal, you said you look to the EPL for fun.....true!! Not for football technically at least. I believe Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga are still the good league for football. England i am very sorry isonly good for business.
Have you wondered why no World Footballer of the year or most European Footballers of Year don't come from England but Italy and Sapin?
The two nations still hold the identity of their league. England is full of foreigners working for them Brits and all they can do is talk talk and talk but on the pitch Robinson will miss a soccerball 20times bigger tha his own ball in his pants.
So despite the problems in Italia, players like Kaka, Zlatan, Vieira, Ronaldo, etc will choose Italy over England. Business minded ones will go to Engalnd in the evening of their carriers.
What is English in Arsenal for example?
Trust me an Al Quaeda will soon buy a club in Englandthe when hisclub loses, the opponents will experience football suicide bombing for the first time in history

Celtic does not worry me but the team needs to deepen the bench for a successful CL campain.

Also Gila-Oliviera- all need to start scoring consistantly.
Pippo needs to do a reprise on last years Super Sub routine.
Further the team now needs to stay healthy and the rest of the teams need a dose of reality particularly Lyon.

surprise surprise Kalac will make his return - he's so tall he can grab the ball in mid-air before the hoops knew, Ancelotti reckons - so my guess, i'd rather call it 'hope' though, is as follow:

Kalac
Oddo, Bonera, Maldini, Jankulovski
Gattuso, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf
Oliveira

with Kaka and Seedorf supporting Oliveira from relatively close distance
as long as they don't let the glaswegians rocking and rolling all over the park it should be an exciting game soaked into some great atmosphere, in this respect italian football fans have a lot to learn

GMT, 'hope' is a very well used word in your comment, because i would be scared too to field Kalac on his return but suprisingly, he had a great game. his game reading was superb, also the heigth kinda scared Nakamura as he was trying to put his freekicks about Kalac and they would all end up in the stands. Great misses from Gila and Gattuso.
Gourcuff still abit naive when confronted with the goal or the keeper but hopefully he will improve.
But Gila was my worst player, especially with that dive. it was a shame. how do you fall 5 steps after a challenge that didn't seem to have affected your motion? he deserved the booking.
How about that desperate Ryan Giggs' freekick against Lille, it was a legitimate robbery, too harsh and hard on the French outfit.

In the end my missus' brother - big Celtic fan - rang me up with good news in hand, it was about time for me to get to see the lads in the flesh again so dashed off and made it to Glasgow by train with only two spare hours to get pissed - quickly necked a few pints on the way to Parkhead, once we got in we were close enough to the tunnel to see Maldini nodding his head in approval as the players stood there surveying a spectacular rendition of 'you'll never walk alone', as if to say that even for a man of his experience that was special, it was indeed great knock-out competition atmosphere at a packed Parkhead, just as great as it was a few seasons ago, the kind of sock-blowing experience i'd recommend to any football lovers

was hoping to see a far more adventurous Celtic that we could have killed on the counter, just a reassuring away goal you see - anyway our best spell to me was in the first half when Pirlo and Kaka combined so slickly that Celtic's players were made to look out of their depth, our midfield began to seize control and to knock the ball around with ease and accuracy, unfortunately for us it didn't last too long, maybe 20-30 minutes?

well i'm no clairvoyant Tal but let me put it this way, that formation on top of the page - Seedorf aside since he failed to pass his fitness test - was exactly the same formation i've seen leaving the pitch last night after Bonera and Oliveira came on respectively for Kaladze and Gilardino

Kalac - 6, looked dodgy early on after a poor punch, did well on Nakamura's free kick though

Oddo - 7, never let McGeady out of sight, dribbled out of trouble more than once

Kaladze - 5, had moments of uncertainity but got away with some scrappy play

Maldini - 7, made his 162th appearance in the competition and played with the authority we have come to know - heard Celtic fans swallowing hard as he emerged from the tunnel

Jankulovski - 7, knocked the ball around well, to me our best defender

Pirlo - 8, showed flashes of star quality throughout the whole game from first to last, everything went through him

Gattuso - 6, far from his top form, worked hard though, missed his golden chance when his shot clattered into the hoardings

Ambrosini - 6, it’s the type of contribution that doesn’t impress, missed a great chance before half-time, which he should have done better with

Kaka - 7, he's damn quick and Celtic weren't sure how to deal with him, problem is, he can't do it all on his own, bet any money he missed Ronaldo

Gourcuff - 7, big strong lad who impressed, to my eyes in the wrong position, but what a miss with a header after 10 minutes

Gilardino - 5, don't like the idea of the lone striker formation especially if the lone striker is called Gilardino, poor control let him down several times especially when he missed a first-half sitter

so extremely tricky outcome since we have no other option but to score and win in a fortnight at the San Siro, we still have it all to do - also because my missus' brother bet me 20 quid that they will make it through to the next round, everything in the UK is a good chance to put a bet on

Would have loved to have seen Maldini's entrance.

40 - 50 years from now I would hate to see Maldini get robbed of recognition through ignorance on the appearences thing.

The only question I have is even if I can swing it how can I get tickets if they only are letting season ticket holders in the stadium?

They are letting season ticket holders only because as you know the San Siro 'failed' to meet Melandri and Cos' safety standards and currently they are trying to fix it and so far the fixed space can only accomodate about 45,000 fans and Milan has about 53,000 season ticket holders. Galliani said by mid Macrh 70,000 seats would be ready and then you can book for your boys and hopefully your wife will understand

anyhows get comfy guys, this is quite funny
apparently, due to the so called safety standards, our city rivals have lost one million euros in the Valencia game alone so now, as far as i know, the AC Milan is set to sue the council, as owner of the ground, for the same amount of money, unsold tickets you see

in brief:
step one - the government shuts down the ground
step two - the clubs sue the government
step three, my guess - the government lets the crowd in

step one and two alone are making fun of it but my guess becoming true would turn it into priceless joke - but hey, this is italy for you

I don't think you need worry.
Roma's thumb sucking baby says he wants Milan....

Well if Milan did not have enough motivation that twit's comments would fire me up enough to ensure I shoved that thumb where it truly belongs on totti boy...

As far as inter and Valencia you should see a minimum of 3 bans from all CL competitions on both teams if not a complete ban.
What Navarro did was gutless but I saw a minimum of 3 attempts to kick to injure. But being football I guess nothing will be done and all players involved will be allowed to play all remaining games.....

But in the end inter yet again adds to their great history as underachievers and true sportsmen and role models of the first order.....

Lone striker or not Milan had plenty of chances to end this one 6-0.
Don't forget the Celtic goalkeeper played the game of a lifetime.
Milan had 37 shots! If the finishing had been better we would have seenthe following scoreline:

Inzaghi, seedorf, ambrosini, Maldini, pirlo, kaka, kaka.

In the end I will beef about one thing: Will carletto just let pirlo take all free kicks when he is on... Sooner or late he will connect but not if he only gets 1 or 2 a game.
Further is it me or what is wrong with Milan's set pieces for corners. Do they even practice them? Milan has had up to 14 a game this season and when did we last see them score on one???
It is a huge part of the game just ask Greece when they won the Euro...

What would be Ideal Milan put Oliver Kahn into retirement in the first leg.
Then rest on the return leg since you can't overcome a 6-0 aggregate.

Obita diary entry 3rd April 2007
This is one of the few moments when all I want to listen to are some bagpipes to give me company. There is no better companion in this agony.
Quick recap, Milan AC 2-2 Bayern Munchen, first leg of UEFA Champions’ League 2006/2007 played at the Meazza Stadium in Milano.
What is the problem then? Do I just feel like fretting over nothing? NO! I have got real issues to worry about. Betrayal and mediocry! Nothing to do with the “Foggy dew” song playing in my headphone, it’s about 3 people whom I do not know personally. But I see them very regularly on and around football pitches when Milan AC is playing football matches. But how do they relate to betrayal and mediocry? And who are they anyway? They are Dida Nelson, Alberto Gilardino and Carlo Ancelotti. Eh! Now these are big names in world football, isn’t it? They could be but not right now. Or if they are then it is for bad reasons. What did they do now? Dida has presided over all moments of sorrow for Milanisti in the past 3 years so consistently that Adriano Galliano has become accustomed to defeats and draws as well as trophy-less seasons and is willing to keep the same backfiring trio (Ancelotti, Dida and Gilardino) for as long as he can. Truly, there are bad than good things to mention about Dida during his years at Milan. Can any Dida fan educate on why this tall goalie closes his eyes when facing a close range ball or long range diagonal balls? How did that van Buyten ball in stoppage time pass because I am very sure that there was no hole in the net to insinuate that the ball could have penetrated through the side net? Bringing Gilardino in the picture is a very painful thing because one of my 2004 prayers was for Milan to sign him and even this season we had a thread discussion about his usefulness to Milan and I totally defended him. He is totally different from the player who played his heart out against Germany in Dortmund in the semifinal of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. If I had GMT’s or Elmickio’s phone number I would call them to say I want to retract all the good things I said about Gilardino. He seems to lack some elementary common sense seen in strikers such as attempting to move balls forwards (all he does is to block passes; and without knowing or intentionally, he becomes an additional defender to the opposition). Could this Tuscano be on someone like Morratti’s payroll? I pray not. Does he know how to chase balls? What is his time through 20 meters? Ancelotti? I thought he should have gone wit Dida after Istanbul 2005, but miraculously they are still the show-callers at Milanello. May be they know something about Galliani or Berlusconi that they use to blackmail the Rossoneri bosses into awarding them contracts after contracts. Did Ancelotti have to bring on Kaladze? The 4-3-2-1 ‘Christmas tree’ formation he cherishes a lot can not be effective when the top has a dull being like Gilardino. And a game is never over until the final whistle, so did he have to bring on a Kaladze who killed the threat Jankulovski was mounting from the left flank? I am not accustomed to seeing Milan concede goals in stoppage time. Who was going to be responsible if I had fainted? Someone may say a ‘good’ Gilardino goal was cancelled, but we were compensated by that non-existent penalty because contact was made on Kaka after the ball had been kicked out.
Can we redeem this tie against Bayern? Well as a Milanista, I say we will, but as a frustrated football support I say WHATEVER. In fact I am already braving for a 2007/2008 season for Milan without Champions’ League football and another trophy-less season.
Now that I seem to have a problem do I have any proposed solutions? Yes!!! There is Gianluigi Buffon for Dida, Poalo Maldini or Marco van Basten for Ancelotti and either Bianchi or Huntelaar for Gilardino.
Well goodbye sorrow, I need to get myself busy. How about boycotting all the remaining Milan games in which Dida and Gilardino feature?
how did the fair last night anyway?
Dida 4
Oddo 7
Jankulovski 7
Maldini 7
Nesta 7
Gattuso 6
Pirlo 7.5
Kaka 7.5
Seedorf 6
Ambrosini 5.5
Gilardino 3
Ancelotti 3.5

Know he is playing a 4-5-1, you cannot score if you only have one striker, and you would score harder if that striker is Gila, what's wrong with Ancelotti, he's too conservative, every week he makes me angrier with his gameplan. Hope he's fired as quickly as possible, trade him to Madrid do whatever you want with him, I don't want him more.

good news is, Gilardino managed to get yellow carded and will miss next week's game in Munich, so we still stand a thin chance of going through to the semis - let's face it though he left us with a massively huge mountain to climb

at this point I have no faith in any of our strikers to carry us through, Milan scored 11 goals in the CL, 7 of which were by Kaka'. Too bad Ronaldo is cup tied.

Let's hope Ronaldo can get the opportunity to play for us in Champions' League for us next season, that is if we qualify

Meazza Stadium in Milano

just two quick things

first, our home ground is called San Siro, always been since 1926 - only because a bunch of poofs renamed it after an asscrackinter player doesn't mean we have to take it - you get to Milan looking for directions to the ground and will notice it's signposted as San Siro, no fcuking Meazza

second, just a tip for writing good readable posts
when it comes to long posts - regardless of its content - say longer than one paragraph, i would suggest to throw in a few gaps between each paragraphs, by doing so you will make a) your posts more readable, and b) your readers' life much easier

Sorry GMT, i thought Meazza did a few god things for the Azzuri although he was Interista! OK point taken, i will not mention him again and anyway the San Siro has always been a great ground for us so to refer to it as the Meazza as per the events of Tuesday (3rd April) i am trying to avoid the fact that we sucked like that at our very own San Siro, a Meazza would mean the ground was full of inter's and Meazza's ghosts that haunted us.
For the long post, thanks for the remarks. When i posted that thing i was trying to make sense in a moment when i was really hurting. And next time i will make sure the paragrahs are there incase i am making a lengthy post.

Hey guys, let's be optimists about Wednesday's feature, I know that the team is facing a problem, but how many times have we got alive in those kinds of adversities??? We have struggled several times and the team had responded, so I think it's time to hope that the TEAM unites and plays like that, like a team for the best of all of us... the fans

I think saturday's game will give the team a boost, they'll get into rythm early on and will get a good result Wednesday, the thing is that Bayern is getting back some starters like Kahn (who I think can helps us with some bad plays from him) and van Bommel who's the one that moves their team

Van Bommel is an assured 5 freekicks for us around the Bayern box, may be a penalty even because he is a sickening tackler. Dida missed Kahn in the first leg but they will be back in business, i only believe that Kahn will outdo Dida this time round. We win win in Allianz Arena guys just get the glasses ready to toast to a fantastic win!

I agree with the Kahn thing, he's too unconsistent.

ManUtd showed us a lesson that a team could win the game it it plays with passion and will, I think that if we start as they did, we could tae control of the game early and net something.

Milan has to play like Milan, as fool as it sounds, we need to play the fast football we've played in the last years.

Bayern will not play with Schweinsteiger because of a knee lesson.

Ancelotti will likely start with Pippo alone at the top because of the lack of forwards (with o without forwards he does it, so what's the matter?) and Oliveira on the bench. This opens a spot on midfield, and I don't want to see Ambro again, he's a defensive midflieder, I prefer an offensive one, Gourcuff would be perfect he excells at ball controll and has amazing passing skills.

We can win this one

Gourcuff must start and Milan must play to win from start to finish just like Man U did today.

7-1 is a beating Roma will never forget.
Maybe someone in italy will finally acknowledge how special Milan has been in CL and quit trying to compare Juve and inter to Milan.
There is no comparison.
