juventus general director Luciano Moggi [left] & son
juventus could face sanctions for sporting fraud after the Italian Football Federation announced the opening of an inquiry into allegations that Juve's general director Luciano Moggi chose referees for the team's matches.
Accusations levelled against Moggi in two newspapers Thursday, but originally aired in 2004, concern the Juve chief requesting specific referees for matches against Messina and AC Milan [Trofeo Berlusconi].
The Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere della Sera published accounts of telephone conversations between Moggi and Pierluigi Pairetto, a former member of the federation's refereeing commission, in which Moggi asks for officials of his choice to be assigned to the matches in question.
Moggi is also accused of having asked Pairetto to select a specific referee for a Champions League encounter in 2004 against Djurgardens of Sweden - at the time, Pairetto was also vice-president of the UEFA refereeing commission.
A statement for the Italian federation said they received transcripts of the conversations from the Turin public prosecutor's office in March and added: "This new and complex documentation makes all other enquiries and analyses irrelevant."
The inquiry was actually opened in March but only announced Thursday.
According to Italian press reports, the transcripts were not sufficient to suggest corruption or match-fixing, but do open juventus to the possibility of league-imposed sanctions.
The federation also recently opened an inquiry into alleged irregularities by the GEA, the association of players' agents, whose president is Moggi's son Alessandro.

He will probably find a way out, as he normally does, but one can always hope |

It is so inconceavable for anything like this to happen in N America.
When is Europe going to clean up its act.
It seems not a year goes by and and european soccer is not rocked with more allegations.
Many members of this forum have expressed outrage and hope that the guilty parties will pay. One can only hope that the house gets truly cleaned.
Take the trophies the titles throw them in B. it is what they deserve. |

We've always been joking about him acting as football godfather didn't we hence there's no such a big surprise but now that he's finally been caught with both hands into the can of worms things have turned into reality and i'd be shocked and horrified to see him and the club getting away with it
Meanwhile as i type this, Juve are taking on Palermo in the Delle Alpi stadium and a huge banner has now appeared reading - Moggi we stand by you, [FIGC, italian football federation] keep your hands off juve - how pathetic is that? |

Unfortunately have people that believe in win at any cost. But Juve was always of that mind set and are we surprised?
What does it say about people and what they do to the beautiful game....
In baseball there was the precedent of the "black sox" early in the 1900's.
They threw the worls series and were BANNED For life from the game.
"Charlie Hussel" who ownes the record for most hits 4000+ in baseball was found out to have bet on his own teams games, (never against his own team) He still was banned for life and will never make it into the hall of fame for the trangression.
When this stuff is found out you have to be merciless, and all parties banned from any association from the sport. Have Moggi's son banned from any association with players and reps. Hit them where it counts also with massive fines. |

| Well Milan is up 2-0 right now and is doing all it can to win its remaining games. Is there any possibility of the league banning juve from this and any previous campionato wins and taking away the scudettos? |

Have no idea Talorcan, we're facing something new here that had never happened before so as far as i know i really don't know, i think it's way beyond anyones imagination
i would predict the club to get relegated and its management to get banned from planet football
regarding my opening post and phone conversations, according to italian press, there's more and even hotter crap to come |

Well Seedorf has just made it 3-1 Milan wih a beautiful gol just minutes after Parma had scored.
Lets see if the soccer agencies get this resolved quickly. Can you give me sone links on this as I get very limited access through news agancies here. Also is Capello getting implicated. I would hate to see Milan Alumni getting mixed up in this. |
