Hey he's only 41 goals off the target!
More importantly none of his 959 goals has been scored in Athens, he didn't see much of the ball there did he, remember that 4-0 trashing of Barca?
Anyway he always reminded me one of my team mates, same compact body structure, same lazy strolling attitude, same imaginative flair and pace on the ball when he wanted to put his skills on display but, unlike the brazilian legend, he decided to quit well before reaching 1000 goals.
Didn't know he was still playing.
But yeah Miami sounds perfect, i could rather see him sipping cocktails, sunbathing and rubbing himself on tanned females over there.
Life can be very hard at times.
Isn't Toronto a bit too cold for him to turn up? May be not at this time of the year.
If i were within walking distance from the Toronto Lynx home ground then i wouldn't miss the opportunity to see him playing in the flesh, it might be well worth an effort, weather permitting. |

Don't get me wrong it is a hell of an achivement but lets face it 1000 goals in national team and division 1 or top flight soccer world wide is one thing.
650 goals in top flight soccer and 350 goals against 2 or 3rd division teams is another thing alltogehter.
To say he would be the only other player other than Pele to score 1000 goals is not quite a fair comparison. Heck he is not even playing in the top flight division in North America but a division 2 equivalent.
I remember when Pete Rose was trying for the record for hits in Pro baseball in the early 80's. They interviewed Ty Cobb another 3000+ hit player 400+ hitting average etc. etc. Now Pete was getting up in years when he got the recordand they asked Ty what he thought and could he have accomplished it in today's game... He paused thought about it and then replyed. "Ya i could still do it but you have to remember I'm now 82".
The other thing that bothers me is this is for individual glory and nothing else. He has no loyalty to any club other than the fact they are giving him the opportunity to get the milestone. As a team mate i would not be overly thrilled, since he could be making a much greater contribution developing younger players than padding his personal stats. |

Was being sarcastic mate
The short one, as they call him, has disappeared from my radar since 2003 when he signed a 3 month contract with Al Sadd [spelling] of Quatar.
Then even the Arabs must have realised his performances were not worthy of the priviileges he was getting in return like dragging himself to the training ground only when he was in the right mood.
By pointing out he's still playing in Florida you made me realise that he always had a soft spot for a spot in the sun. He's as lazy as a lazy lizard isn't he.
Bet any money he's put some weight on as well.
Yet if i were within strolling distance from the Toronto Lynx ground ... oh and don't forget your camera, should be good fun! |

Okay as of yesterday he was in Toronto and scored his 960 goal of his carrier.
I have no doubt he will make 1000 to join Pele as the only 2 to score 1000.
The irony of the situation however was post game all the children were asking for Di Santis who has tought local kids for years at soccer camps and yet did not know who Romaio was.
Good luck to him and I will keep you all posted.
GMT sorry mate could not get to the game or get pictures of the legend I am in the middle of a major installation and had to be in till late last night. |

I agree with you Tolorcan, he only makes it for individual glory, I would like to see him retired, nice point of view
And you GMT, I think your point of view is a strange one do you think Romario has to score 1000 goals???
He was a great player but com'n that's a lot what does he wins with it?
He would be remember as a great player
But everyone needs to know when to quit |

heh yeah we'll have to keep an eye on him!
oh well hitting 1000 in some Brazilian temple, say Maracana, would have some impact |

GMT he does not have the pace anymore and I would not call him fat but practice he still skips. Great leadership for the young players.
He loves Miami since he can get "food he likes" and he still can womanize all he wants. He even made a deal where he plays primarily home games and a few away games.
I can't see him no matter if he hits 1000 in the same light as Pele, Bekenbauer, even Maradona was a tragic figure.
Romario needs to remember it is what you give back, for what you are remembered, not what you took from the game. |

well he's such a character isn't he, but no i don't think he HAS to score 1000 goals, i'm not shouting for him, i'd say amused if anything [regardless Pele who's the one and the only]
please keep posting about his next moves, on and off the pitch
pictures, clips, news, whatever you like |
