oh well is that it?
i will go on with a bit of sledgehammering workout if you don't mind - the way the italian government along with the FA dealt with the Catania Palermo events sums it up pretty well, let's get some mind-refreshing job done here:
pre game - the fixture is scheduled on a friday in order to avoid major troubles, as anyone knows riots spread all over the place outside the ground, one policeman pays the bill for their incompetence, they've seen it coming still they couldn't do anything about it
post game - the government along with the FA point accusatory finger at the clubs, the grounds - supposedly not up to standards - are shut down, planet football is halted - it has to be said that all italian football grounds are owned by the government itself
if it wasn't for the death of the above mentioned policeman i'd call this as combination of laughable incompetence and shameless mendacity - you would now expect to see a few heads rolling down the ministerial staircase but no nothing happens and one week later football is resumed - oh but they've got a few hundred turnstiles now, as any sane mind knows they will surely prevent riots to burst out again, especially at a few hundred meters away from the gates, bet any money they will do
as we speak, three weeks have gone since the Catania riots and only one bloke is behind the bars while a few questions are still unanswered, was it a one-man riot? where have all the fcukers gone, just vanished? is this the way to deal with them? can anyone tell me
the word of my choice is incompetence, which nicely fits in the same sentence along with Minister of Sport Giovanna Melandri and FA president Luca Pancalli and many others but then again that's how they run the whole place, they're going nowhere, just drifting away from basic common sense principles
in a way, as nit3r said above, all this is amusement no end |

Well here is a thought.
In discussion with one of my employees of Italian descent, his comment was; "This would never have happened in Mussollini's time"
Funny especially coming from a guy who is at least 2 generations away from that time frame.
In the end though GMT you are right. In any decently run country the concept of responsibility and accountability apply.
Police are dead, people riot and where is the accountability.
Where in Italy does the BUCK STOPS HERE???
The politicians all want their perks and ministerial seats yet nothing ever really changes.
The perception internationally is Italy is currupt pure and simple.
A sad statement for a country that has given so much to the world.
The song should have been "Who cries for Bella Italia?" |
