Dear all,

I am a journalism student from England. I am currently conducting an investigation into UEFA's organisation of the 2007 Champions League final in Athens.

As part of the investigation I am desperate to find out how the Italian media covered and interpreted the problems which occurred outside the Olympic Stadium.

If anybody can answer any of the following questions I would be very grateful to hear from them.

Thank you.

Please note the term ‘trouble’ relates to both those Liverpool supporters trying to gain access illegally and the subsequent refusal of entry to those supporters with legitimate tickets. ‘Supporter unrest’ relates to the hostility towards police and the acts of violence that occurred as a result.

1) AC Milan’s victory was obviously the main talking point but how was the trouble outside the Olympic Stadium and resulting supporter unrest reflected in the Italian media?

2) Who did the Italian media blame for the trouble? UEFA, the Greek authorities or Liverpool supporters?

3) The day after the final Michel Platini praised Milan fans for their impeccable behaviour. What did Milan fans think of this?

4) In England fans were angry about the number of tickets available to the fans. Was it the same in Italy?

5) Are fans in Italy angry at the distribution of tickets to corporate partners/companies (such as Mastercard) for Champions League matches?

6) Did the Italian media make any criticisms regarding the lack of turnstiles/facilities at the Olympic Stadium?

7) Did the Italian media make any criticisms regarding the policing/stewarding of the event?

8) Finally, were there any criticisms of UEFA’s organisation of the 2005 final in Istanbul?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'll be happy to answer your questions but consider the following point- The area around the stadium was divided in 2 halfs to separate as much as they could the fans of the two teams therefore little is known of what happened in the " Reds half ".
I've seen all your italian collegues in the Ac Milan area so most of the things eventualy written in the italian newspapers about your problems are not "lived situations" but are practically all "reported news" where a lot can be added or not.

Unfortunately we live in a nation where, if you win, you tend to forget of the problems occurred and because of the positive ending for us, tv and the rest of the media focused all on the team and the joy of the fans.

United kingdom fans are known to be good fans at home and bad fans in the europe away matches.

"This is the result of the laws applied against the hooligans by the british parliment in the 80s. Because in the other european countries there are not such laws against hooligans, when they leave their country, they return to act as hooligans"

Because of this, when trouble occur italian media tend to give the falts more to the fans rather than see what actually happened.

We ( And the same goes liverpool fans) do not need Michel Platini approval to know whether our behaviour was good or bad.
He said this because he was one of those people who didn't want Ac Milan in the competition due to " Calciopoli".
Faith wanted Ac Milan winner and that obliged him to declare something good.

Angry ? Furious is a better word.

One third of the capacity for each team and the remaining to the hosting country is the most stupid way to distribute the tickets.

90% of the tickets given to the hosting country will be sold via internet at least double price the real value of each ticket.

Far too many tickets are kept by the teams that will not be re-distributed to the fans of the teams.
I can understand the ones for sponsors, not those " For friends ", even less for those " Friends of friends "

5) Are fans in Italy angry at the distribution of tickets to corporate partners/companies (such as Mastercard) for Champions League matches?

Sure. If you calculate that i could have spent aprox 300 euro for ticket and flight and instead i spent more than the double...
Would you be happy ?

6) Did the Italian media make any criticisms regarding the lack of turnstiles/facilities at the Olympic Stadium?

No.
Too much into the 90min game. Italian mentality

7) Did the Italian media make any criticisms regarding the policing/stewarding of the event?

Not really.
Only those fans like me who had to wait in a cue for more than an hour were very dissapointed. The media had other entrances and so they couldn't care a less

8) Finally, were there any criticisms of UEFA’s organisation of the 2005 final in Istanbul?

Yes, but still mainly by fans.
Can you be happy to play in a stadium in the middle of a desert with no facilities around it ?
A couple of places where to go and buy some beer for 60,000 people is quite sad.
At least there you won.
We lost and we were in middle of fucking desert.
You coludn't even drink over it.
Horrible experience

Thank you in advance for your help.

Secondo me, Platini ha detto questo evidenziando una differenza.
I tifosi del Liverpool sono andati in massa ad Atene senza biglietto, quelli del Milan si sono spostati solo se muniti di tagliando di ingresso.

No?

Può essere. Ma non si espose più di tanto, dato che il club che chiese la nostra estromissione in quanto penalizzati era francese (Lens)
