| Castillo!!! That is fabulous piece of football from him and definitely i will watch for him in the semis again - last night he was such a pain to the Paraguay defence that I prayed for them when it was 6-0 |

An interesting post I have refrained from replying till now.
I had a chance today to speak with a number of the coaches athe the AC MILAN JR Camp being run in Vaughn just north of Toronto.
While the raw material exists in Canada just like many other countries throughout the world there does exist a great gap.
Coaching
The single most critical element in the developement of players is the caoching expertise.
We don't have it and will not for a few more generations.
Further to it the quality of training and certification is so vastly different in Canada from Europe and South America.
You can slowly work up the ranks and get your Sr designation (Coach at the national level) by a couple of week courses only.
Elsewhere it is the equivalence to a university degree taking many years of dedication and testing to pass to the next level.
While the coaches sent from Milan and Italy were positive about the Children they spoke volumes by their lack of comments on the local coaches (not their fault with very poor infrastructure)
Until canada improves in this crucial department we will never crack the to 60 in the world again.
Hand in hand with this goes the level of training for the referee's also. |

A very valid point javo.
If you look at the success that Australia has had at the last olympics that was the direct result of an organized funding policy that supported the building of training facilities and the payment and development of professional coaching. The results were seen in Sydney very well.
Canada while it spends a fair amount on sports (we are starting to follow the Australian model) does not necessarily spend it all in Football.
Canada's focus tends to always have been more focused on winter sports.
Currently everything is being spent on the 2010 winter games in Vancouver.
Any focus on football is more at a municipal level.
In some good news just near us they just announced the contruction of a complete indoor outdoor facility to be built within 3 kilometers of us.
But again this is only at the grass roots level but it is a step forward. In the past they only would have built icerinks. |
