Well the group stage is upon us and only Fiorentina of the Italian teams is left.
Empoli, Sampdoria and Citta di Palermo all went down in tight races but came up short.
Here are tha match ups for day one of the group stage. Fiorentina have a good squad and should go far in the competition but Bayern have got to be favoured the way they are playing so far this year in all competitions.

I must admit Ajax are on a real downturn as of late.
Bayern has at least rebuilt themselves and is more than prepared for long term success in CL next season if they continue on their current pace.
AZ are starting to supplant them consistantly in UEFA competitions. |

Bayern has banked alot on 30year old Toni and Klose who is also aging so the "long term" plan may be short lived. Nevertheless they have Ribery (but a really stupid boy with his comments), Seba Schwaienztiegger, Lukas Podolski and others to bank on for the future so I predict a mixed fortune for Bayern.
AZ have a great coach in Advocaat so it is no surprise that they are becoming a UEFA main stay |
