friday 31 august, Milan v Sevilla kot 20.45 [local time] Luis II Stadium in Montecarlo
only five days to go and nobody seems to have the slightest interest in the 32nd edition of the UEFA Super Cup, well unlike you lot when it comes to pots i'm out for blood - just a quick recap Sevilla take part in this as UEFA Cup holders having defeated Espanyol on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Glasgow one week before Milan won the CL in Athens as you're more likely to remember.
for the record Milan have won this competition four times
1989 Barcelona v Milan 1-1 [Van Basten]; Milan v Barcelona 1-0 [Evani]
1990 Sampdoria v Milan 1-1 [Evani]; Milan v Sampdoria 2-0 [Gullit, Rijkaard]
1995 Arsenal v Milan 0-0; Milan v Arsenal 2-0 [Boban, Massaro]
2003 Milan v Porto 1-0 [Shevchenko]
all that brings back good memories since i attended three games, Milan Barca was the last game i witnessed from the so called parterre, my beloved all-standing section, the closest to the pitch, before it was dismantled in preparation of the Italia 90 world cup, then the away game at Doria and the Arsenal home game when our lot played in a very unusual all-yellow kit - anyhows we're definitely in for the fifth pot
for a change Gilardino embarassed himself in Genova and Ancelotti smartly enough it has to be said saved Ronaldo and Inzaghi for this one, hopefully and fingers crossed they're in for well deserved glory |

Hey GMT its not that I'm not interested but work is getting in the way lately.
I agree we have saved our best strikers for the important one this Friday.
Milan will shine again in Monaco just like in Athens.
History does have a way of repeating itself. |

| There is a discussion on the Super Cup going on in other threads in this section maybe you can look it up and add a thing or two. |

okie dokie calm down mods, i've just noticed you listed this official fixture among the so called pre-season friendly/exhibition games and i'm really struggling to find any ongoing discussion on the matter as such unless i missed something of course, anyhows it doesn't look right to me i mean this fixture because of its nature fully deserves its own thread
so it's worth mentioning here that Sevilla have recently won the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid, they won both legs 1-0 in Sevilla and 5-3 in Madrid - now i do appreciate optimism and positive energy but they're not going to Montecarlo for tourism and sunbathing, it's gonna be a very very tough game |

OK then we do it here.
Sevilla just like Milan started the Primera season on a high, thumping Getafe 4-1 with goals from the usual suspects Luis Fabiano and Fredie Kanoute. Jesus Navas, and Aleksandr Kerzhakov added one apiece to complete the route. They will definitely be formidable opponents if not tormentors. But Kaka's form pleases and gives confidence to many. As well Superpippo promised the 31st to be a magical night in montecalo so we look forward to that. |

thinking of last season's final makes me wonder whether Sevilla's 3-0 win over Barca stands out as the highest win margin since the final became a one off fixture
moreover those of you who are interested in keeping a close eye on the spaniards approaching this weekend's fixture might want to get on this: Sevilla are set to take on AEK Athens tonight in their CL qualifying round tie, successfully defending their 2-0 lead from the first leg in Spain will ensure the spaniards a) a small yellow plastic ball with their club's name written inside, and b) taking part in the CL group stage draw which will take place on thursday evening in Montecarlo [18.00 local time] |

Two bads news from Sevilla:
First Dani Alves going AWOL, and Antonio Puerta has died. He had collapsed on Saturday in the clash with Getafe and was unconcious till he passed on last night. A real football tragedy. Milan is willing to have the clash postponed but UEFA says it has to go on in memory of Puerta. May he rest in peace |

| In the end we will see a focused Milan triumph against a distracted Seville still trying to come to grips with what has happened to them. |

WE WON AGAIN!!!!!!!!! 3-1 in Monaco!!!
5 time winners Milan have now done what no other Club side has ever done and that is win 17 international Club cups!!!!
Only The great Boca Juniors have only 16 and are their closest rivals.
This only confirms Milan's stature and title as STRONGEST CLUB SIDE EVER, certainly in the last 20 years.
Thank You boys!!!!! |
