The openning game was between the hosts Ghana and Guinea. The match ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts who scored through a penalty by Gyan Amoah and a stunning strike from left-footer Sullay Ali Muntari. Guinea scored in a mix up melee in the Black Stars' 6 yard area when the host failed to clear a corner and the hit the keeper's shoulder and into the net.
The turning point of the game was a controversial decision by the referee to award Ghana a penalty when everyone expected Agogo to get booked for a no contact dive in the Guinean penalty area. There was a memorable appearance by Dede Ayew, son of former Ghanaian captain Abedi Pele Ayew. |

The second day of the Ghana 08 Nations' Cup did not disappoint.
Morocco walloped Namibia 5-1 with 4 goals coming in the first 40 minutes. The game of the day between Cote D'Voire and Nigeria was a thrilling encounter that ended 1-0 in favour of The Elephants with Salomon Kalou scoring the all important goal in a wonderful maze beating 4 defenders before sending Nigerian Keeper Ejide the wrong way. The late game of the day between dark-horses Benin and Mali ended 1-0 in favour of Fredie Kanoute's troops.
Today Defending Champions Egypt tussle it out with African powerhouse Cameroun in another highly billed game. |

More goals and class on Day 3 of the CAN Ghana 08:
Defending champions Egypt beat the hell out of Cameroun 4-2 with 3 players scoring braces - Samul Eto'o, Mohamad Zidan and Hosni al Rabou. Zidan was a class act and one wonders why Hamburg doesn't sit high up in the Bundesliga when they have this prodigy alongside Rafael van der Vaart.
The second Group C game pitted Zambia against Sudan and the Chipolopolo Boy (Zambia) thrashed the north Africans 3-0 with goals from James Chamanga (2') - Jacob Mulenga (51') - Felix Katongo (59')
The tourney has so far produced 20 goals from 6 matches |

The CAN Ghana 08 continues to excite going by last evening's results.
Tunisia and Senegal shared the spoils 2-2 in a see-saw encounter that saw go ahead through Issam Jemaa (9) only for Senegal to equalize through Moustafa Sall (45) and take the lead thanks to Diomansy Kamara (66) until the 82nd minute when Mejdi Traoui had a thing to say on the result scoring the second goal for Tunisia to ensure that the game ended 2-2.
In the other match of the day, South Africa's blushes were spared through an 87th minute strike from Elrio van Heerden to settle the tie 1-1 after Manucho had put Angola ahead with an early strike. |

Drama as Morocco goes down to Guinea to open up the group second spot qualification race. Guinea played solidly to beat the Atlas Lions 3-2 while Ghana sealed their place in the last 8 by beating Namibia 1-0 with Manuel Junior Agogo scoring the all important goal.
Guinea made their intentions known from the first whistle and were 2-0 up after 59 minutes,l Pascal Feindouno (11') - Ismael Bangoura (59') scoring good goals. Morocco replied immediately (Hicham Aboucherouane - 60') -after Guinea's second goal but the West Africans were not yet done and restored their two goal advantage immediately with Pascal Feindouno (63') bagging his second of the game. Morocco got a useless consolation in the 90th minute through Abdeslam Ouaddou as it was too late to recover. |

Quite an interesting weekend it was down here:
Friday:
Cote D'Ivoire trounced Benin 4-1 to virtually book their place in the quarters and left the battle for second place between Nigeria and Mali as Benin was already eliminated after the loss. Mali held their resolve to hold the Super Eagles to a goalless draw and put the Nigeria at a risk of failing to qualify for the last eight as they (Nigerians) are on 1 point compared to 4 of Mali. A draw between Mali and Cote D'Ivoire in the last group game will send the Super eagles crashing in the group stages.
Saturday:
Cameroun came all out blazing and Zambia couldn't really hold on for too long. Geremi Njitap, Samuel Eto'o, Job Desire and scored in the 5-1 win that revived the Indomitable Lions' campaign.
Egypt defeated Sudan 2-0 to stroll into the quaterfinals
Sunday:
This was the day of titanic results. Tunisia dispatched a disorganized South Africa 3-1 and Angola came from a goal down to mirror Tunisia's scoreline against Senegal beating the Teranga Lions 3-1 to open up the group with no one assured of qualification until the last ball is kicked in the last group games. |

Who do you think will come out on top Obita?
I must admit what I have seen you have to like Ivory Coast.
I also have to like Angola as a dark horse. |
