Sentimentally I don't support West African teams which include Ivory coast. Ghana is an exception because of their humility and an ancestry that I personally share with Ghanaians......so I can sympathize with them a little. I support Cameroon very openly, but that will not distract my objectivity for the sake of the game.
On who will come on top; I put my money on Egypt because they play the best football and are strong in all their departments. Ivory Coast and Ghana come in second because of the power they have got in some of their departments. Their shortcomings are kind of pronounced and their opponents will capitalize on those. The Ivorian have a very poor keeper in Barry (he always remind of Nelson Dida), Barry practically mis-time all his runs but thanks to a very solid defence he has got in Kolo Toure, Meite, Boka and Eboue. Ghana just don't have any striker...infact they have never had one since Tony Yeboah retired.
Tunisia and Angola are indeed dark horses and cannot be taken for granted. My Cameroon will have to play some compact football in order to convince all of us that they are really there. even the 5-1 drubbing of Zambia did not impress many because they are not yet playing as a working unit but as cliques
Monday saw Ghana beating Morocco 2-0 to eliminate the Atlas Lions and a 1-1 draw between Namibia and Guinea ensured that the Guineans advanced in second place. |

| Morocco an African Football power-house fell despite having alot of quality in Chamak, Hadji, Chretein and Nadir. Today Nigeria with ELP stars Kanu, Obafemi, Yakubu, Yobo, Obi-Mikel et al will fall should they fail to beat Benin or should Mali escape a loss against Ivory Coast (which from my understanding of African football, will most likely happen) and the Super Eagles of Nigeria will take early flights to wherever they have to go away from the tourney. German coach Berti Vogts will also be render jobless. |

Poor Fredie Kanoute, poor Momo Sissoko, poor Mamadou Diarra!!! They let Nigeria escape through group B and also guaranteed Berti Vogts a job for the time being. Didier Drogba started the onslaught and the rest was history as John Obi-Mikel was copying his Chelsea team-mate in the other game - scoring decisive goals. In the end Ivory Coast win 3-0 against Mali and Nigeria's 2-0 win over Benin is enough to see then through to the quarterfinal.
Nigeria will face the hosts Ghana next while Cote D'Ivoire plays Guinea. |

Sudan leaves the tournament without scoring a goal, after losing 0-3 to Cameroon who had Samuel Eto'o to thank as he Barca man scored twice and was involved in the 3rd goal. His two goals make him the All-time top scorer in the CAN history with 16 goals.
Egypt drew 1-1 with Zambia in a tight encounter that saw Zambia's captain Katongo producing the goal of the tournament, drill a pointy blank shot from close range in the 87th minute for the equalizer.
Egypt qualifies as group winners and Cameroon as runner-ups and awaits the outcome of group D where Tunisia, Senegal, Angola and South Africa can still all qualify. |

Great show of character.
Ghana came from a goal down and lost their captain Mensah to a harsh red card to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in a thrilling enounter in Accra to book their place in the semifinals. They will face the winner bewteen Cameroun and Tunisia. Michael Essien and Junior Manuel Agogo scored for Ghana while Yakubu Ayeigbeni netted Nigeria's goal from the penalty spot.
Ivory Coast made their intentions clear by crushing Guinea 5-0 in a one-sdied encounter that saw Keita, Drogba Kalou (2 goals) and Kone getting on the score-sheet. The Ivorians now await the winner between Angola and Egypt. |

And finally the greats met and the greatest came on top. As I predicted before Egypt is in the final (against Cameroon) after dispatching Didier Drogba's Ivory Coast 4-1 in a sensational match in Kumasi. Two goals from Zaky, a beauty from Aboutrika and another from Fatih ensured that the Ivorians' dream ended in their mouths and that of the press that tipped them for the crown. Keita scored a stunner for Ivory coast for their consolation.
In the earlier game, Ghana couldn't climb over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and it ended 1-0 for Samuel Eto'o's troops courtesy of a goal by Alain N'kong midway through the second half.
Sunday's final will be a rematch of the openning game of Group C that saw a disjointed Cameroon get thrashed 4-2 by Egypt. Since then, the team has change and are playing with purpose a fact that will make the final very close to call. Egypt has the strength and Cameroon has the numbers. I predict at most a penalty shoot-out |

Today the 3rd place game of the African Nations' Cup will take place between Ghana and Cote D'Iviore and it will be more to the home side to salvage something from a very well organized and highly interesting tournament - the best in the history of this competition. There have been plenty and quality goals and the reaction from the local, continental and international fans have been marvelous and this 26th Edition will remain on top until we see what Namibia and Angola the next hosts will come up with. Also to remember is Samuel Fils Eto'o who at 26 years is now the all time leading scorer in the Nations' Cup history with 16 goals.
Back to the 3rd place play-off Ivory Coast will need to pick themselves up after that humbling 4-1 drubbing in the hands of the Egyptians and any low morale will give the Black stars an invitation inflict more misery on the crestfallen Ivorians |

The curtains will today draw on the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations and all expectations except a few have been fulfilled.
In the 3rd place play-off, Ghana added misery to Ivory Coast's goal conceding rate by pumping 4 against 2 to finish 3rd overall in the competition behind Cameroon and Egypt whho tussle it out in the final today at 17.00GMT.
The 2-4 reverse was a dis hearting affair for the Ivorians who had conceded 4 against Egyptian Pharaohs in the semis and brought the tally to 8 goals conceded in 2 games and they ended up in 4th place instead of the press=hyped 1st.
Sulley Muntari (formerly of Udinese but now at Portsmouth), Junior Manuel Agogo, Draman Haminu and Quincy Owusu Abieye scored for Ghana while Sanogo got a brace for Ivory Coast |
