It is all over!!!
Egypt are the 2008 African cup of nations Champions!!!!
They beat Cameroon 1-0 thanks to a 75th minute strike from smiling assassin Mohamed Abou Trika.
It all remained clear that Egypt were favourites and fully deserve their triumph but the manner in which it happened broke man hearts including that of FIFA President Sepp Blatter who was in the stands as well as - guess who - Jose Mourinho - who for some reasons looked sympathetic to Cameroon.
The turn around was in the 75th minute when Bill Tchato sent a cool defense pass to Rigobert Song. Instead of controlling it, the iconic captain decided to collide with the ball, allowed it to bounce towards his goal. Mohamed Zidan charged from the left as Abou Trika raced on the right side of the action. Song executed 4 knocks on the ball towards his own goal (when clearing it out looked the best option) before Zidan caught up with him and with great strength disposed him. As they did against the Ivorians, Zidan laid a delicious pass for Abou Trika who made no mistake that trigger the Egyptian trademark Islamic bow of celebration. Cameroon came back swinging immediately and in the process Samuel Eto'o force Shady to make a save on the 18 yard line with his hand to to the world's disbelieve the referee awarded a freekick against Cameroon and it was all over, Cameroon never tried again.
Egypt won it and in dramatic fashion. Congs to the Pharaohs and their supporters and to the MVP Hosny Abd Rabou! |
